free eye-examination for everyone in Scotland
patients aged 60 and over are now entitled to annual routine examination and will be offered dilated* fundus examination
patients aged 70 and over will receive dilated* fundus examination as routine
this is a health assessment of the eyes and refraction for spectacles may not always be necessary
your eye condition may be managed in practice without need to attend GP/hospital
introduction of repeat or supplementary tests will reduce inappropriate referral to GP/hospital
your new NHS eye-examination may take longer than the old NHS sight-test
* Dilated fundoscopy requires the use of eyedrops to dilate your pupils to allow a better view of the back of the eye. These drops may blur your vision and make you sensitive to light which may last for 5-6 hours. You are advised not to drive while your vision is affected. Please arrange another method of transport to and from the practice.
